Malvern Brewery Hops into Canning
Malvern Hills Brewery
Craft brewers, Malvern Hills Brewery (MHB) now sell three of their delicious craft ale range – Black Pear, Malvern Spring, and Sozzled Santa in cans.
MHB’s Head Brewer Julian Hawthornthwaite, who originally hails from an engineering background, ingeniously designed, and made his very own beer can filling machine with his father, Tom Hawthornthwaite, who is a retired scientist.
Asking Julian about the benefits of canning, he said, “…once I realised that I could potentially make a canning operation right here on site, well, I just had to give it a shot”.
He added, “Canning is really better than bottling. It eliminates light and limits oxidation, it’s lighter to carry when transporting, doesn’t break easily, is easier to store, 99% recyclable and, the cans chill quicker and stay colder for longer.”
He continued, “These new types of cans actually hold the taste better and are more reminiscent of the beer that’s available in local pubs through a traditional hand-pull. Essentially, a can is a smaller version of a cask.”
With a greater variety of drinkers getting into craft beers, MHB hopes they will also enjoy their 330ml can offerings. As Sales and Marketing Representative Frances Casey put it, “These days, young people are very knowledgeable about their craft beers. They are using new apps to find out more and are quite adventurous about trying great new craft beers. We have lots of fans of our beers, especially our best seller – Black Pear, which is a golden premium bitter and was a past finalist in the Great British beer festival. We’ve been brewing it for the last twenty years now”.
Frances added, “We are the oldest existing brewery in Malvern and so, we have had the time to create a lot of great seasonal beers as well as developing a strong range of core beers. So, if you’re interested, please visit our website www. malvernhillsbrewery.co.uk or call me directly on 01684 560 165 to grab some of our new canned beers”.
Malvern Hills Brewery will soon have their cans stocked in local shops across the county but for now, be sure to call on 01684 560 165 to pick up some quaffable beer ahead of Christmas.
About Malvern Hills Brewery
Malvern Hills Brewery was established in an old quarryman’s gunpowder store back in September 1998. Brewer and owner, Julian Hawthornthwaite, is proud to craft imaginative and distinctive beers using hops sourced from local hop merchants. The range of beers were initially brewed as a hobby and often take their names from local luminaries and events from Malvern’s past. A host of awards followed for the various beers he created. This, quickly established Malvern Hills Brewery as one of the finest microbreweries in the UK. The evidence lies in the quality of its beers and the dedication to craftsmanship. As a beer-lover, the head brewer is continually reviewing every aspect of production in order to brew the finest beers crafted with a commitment to quality for his loyal customers.
